    It is a puzzle to men whether and to what degree a woman (such as Bathsheba) purposefully positions herself so as to arouse the interest of a particular man. It might be stipulated that many do indeed, to some extent, set to arouse the interest of men in general. Father raises the question of Bathsheba's possibly having a seductive intent, but it remains only a matter of speculation.
